Miniature Prints : ‘Dead Bird’ series
Last summer seemed to be the season for dead birds in my life. I found a second beautiful feathered skeleton on the sands at the Gare, I killed one in my car and cried at the blood on the windscreen, our kittens laid loving gifts at the back door, my children proudly presented mummy with more found remains for her artwork!
The imagery of the bird as a metaphor for the spirit enabled me to explore the notions of loss and change and the natural process that is a result of the stages of anger, grief and acceptance which must precede renewal.
These miniature prints attempt to construct images that convey something of these emotions, they try to indicate the nuances of transition between each stage, using the dead birds as prompts.
