Rebirth of the Mother

The intention of these works; the closest to a self-portrait in my non-figurative images, is a response to the mother in chaos. They intend to represent the joy, not the destructive powers, of the mother returning to the child within her. The female form is taken as soft landscape from charcoal life drawings; the gift of a jar of paper sunshine from my children is symbolic of reawakening and receiving, and the darker more masculine elements of towers acknowledge strength and ambition.

Combined in these works I hope to suggest a journey of growth and freedom.

This sequence of mixed media monoprints attempts to reflect the same spatial and textural qualities I enjoy in my sketchbook collages, the spontaneity and lightness of which I have been seeking to capture within the process of the printed image.
