natalis -e [relating to birth , natal];
m. as subst. [a birthday];
plur. [birth, origin]
This series of monoprints is a progression from images developed in sketchbook collages, that explore the colour and form of cakes decorated by my children. These works intend to celebrate birth and life; the small precious individual cakes resemble the unique biological cells that in the wider context represent conception and evolution. The notion of breasts and sweets is not accidental. A simple gesture of giving and receiving, of acknowledging the passage of time and the growth that has occurred, the bond of mother and child and the life that has been created, nurtured, and must eventually become independent, hopefully comments on an underlying truth about our interlocking journeys through life
