Shrine Shadows

The main body of this work centred on four personal and meaningful objects and the representation of their shadows. A broken candle lantern, the flame a symbol for the soul, passion, light and dark; an antique beaded purse, symbolic in dream imagery of female sexuality; a small, wire, empty bird cage, articulating issues of security vs. confinement. Each object is a metaphor for an aspect of 'Self' and I believe speaks for a specifically female identity within contemporary society.

I became fascinated by the deep and powerful symbolism of shadows, the representation of duality, and this in conjunction with the multiplicity and simultaneity of our identities within ourselves and with our external world. I sought to explore and attempt to articulate visually these ideas and feelings.
